Itinerary:  Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbok Palace, Bukchon/Seochon, Samcheong-dong, Insadong 광화문, 경복궁, 북촌/서촌, 삼청동, 인사동 (10am to 8/9pm)

Highlights:

  • Walk along the historic Gyeongbok Palace, engaging with locals by asking them to take your photo—and offer to return the favor, using the Korean phrases you've learned;

  • Sit down at a traditional Hanok café for tea, reflecting on the half day's experiences with fellow participants and discuss strategies for finding more opportunities to engage with local people and culture for the afternoon;

  • Enjoy unique culinary experience at a Korean barbecue for dinner!

Day 2 – Grocery Shopping, Cooking, and 치맥! (Chicken & Beer)

  • Experience the local markets and cook up a storm! From grocery shopping in traditional markets and experiencing the convenience store culture to preparing your own Korean lunch meal with other participants under the guidance of a Korean mom!

  • Finish the day off with a scenic 치맥 Chicken & Beer dinner by the Han River.

Day 3 – A Day in the Life: Discovering the Heartbeat of Seoul's Neighborhoods

Itinerary:  Bungdang-gu Jeongja-dong 분당구 정자동 (10am to 8/9pm)  

Complete interactive missions to truly connect with the local culture and to gain insights into the everyday lives of Seoul's residents and families: 

  • Stroll along the lively streets of Jeongja Cafe Street and visit a variety of shops, ranging from 반찬가게, local clothing shops, coffee shops, to tofu and salt shops;

  • Enter a few buildings to get a glimpse of Korean students’ after school academic vigor through various 학원 in the vicinity in Bundang;

  • Savor authentic local dishes at neighborhood eateries.

Also, pay a visit to iconic tech giants like Naver showcasing the city's blend of rich cultural heritage and cutting-edge innovation.

Day 4 – Namdaemum Market, Street Food, Namsan Tower and Myungdong

Itinerary:  Namdaemun Market, Baekbeom Square, N-Tower, Myungdong 남대문시장, 백범광장, 남산타워, 명동 (10am to 8/9pm)

Highlights:

  • Start our day at Namdaemum Market, where the narrow lanes are brimming with history, culture, and every imaginable kind of merchandise. Highlights include sampling Korean street food and interacting with local vendors;

  • Enjoy a serene picnic at Baekbeom Square, a space dedicated to the memory of a Korean independence activist and make our way to Namsan Tower, a symbol of Seoul's skyline;

  • Stroll down the road to enter Myeongdong, one of Seoul's busiest shopping districts, and step into Korea's religious and political history by touring Myeongdong Cathedral.

  • Start at Dongdaemun Market and mingling with local vendors to discover unique finds. Unlike Namdaemun, Dongdaemun is famed for its retail richness, offering a vast array of fashion items alongside the futuristic DDP, an iconic symbol of Seoul's design prowess;

  • Walk along Cheonggyecheon (Cheonggye Stream) en route to Gwangjang Market, while delving into its fascinating history;

  • Venture to Gwangjang Market for a culinary journey to sample classic food pairings;

  • Wander Ewha Village's mural-lined lanes, revealing stories of Seoul's evolution and local life;

  • Optional: After dinner, opt to relax and wind down at a jazz lounge, reflecting on the day's adventures while enjoying views of Dongdaemun, Seoul's historic East Gate, and listening to soothing jazz.

Day 6 – The New & The Old of Korea – Hybridity

Itinerary:  Seodaemun Prison History Hall 서대문형무소역사관, House of Hong Nan Pa 홍난파 가옥, Donuimun Museum Village 돈의문박물관마을, Seoul Museum of History 서울역사박물관, Kyobo Book Centre 교보문고 (10am to 8/9pm)

Highlights:

  • Delve into Seoul's history and modernity as well as sensibilities with visits to historical sites which signify the Chosun Period to the Japanese colonial period and to democratization and modernization: a deep dive into the city's evolution;

  • Navigate the city using public transportation and engage in hands-on activities such as shopping Korean stationery
